RECENT WRAP-UP | January 2012

I just finished my first tour as a leader of a trio in Japan in quite a while. I used to tour a lot in Japan in the 90s and for the last six years I’ve been going back each summer with the New York Standards Quartet, a co-led band that features Tim Armacost, Gene Jackson and Daiki Yasukagawa. I did occasionally lead bands in Japan in the 90s, but this was my longest leader outing there to date: 11 gigs in 11 days with my good friend Gene Jackson and my newer friend Daiki Yasukagawa. It was a great pleasure to hit with them steadily for a while. I wrote a lot of posts about this tour on Facebook and they are collected on the blog page of my website so if you want to delve into the details of my varying moods and ruminations on the jazz scene in Japan and road life in general, visit my December 2011 blog posts.
