The David Berkman Sextet

David Berkman’s latest recording “Old Friends and New Friends” on Palmetto records, released May 2015 is a sextet and features Brian Blade on drums, Linda May Han Oh on bass and Dayna Stephens, Adam Kolker and Billy Drewes on saxophones. With this sextet, Berkman creates shifting orchestral backgrounds and showcases the improvisatory talents of the three reedmen. Recent performances include Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club and the Iowa Jazz Festival. Watch for forthcoming Berkman sextet on Palmetto records later this year.

The David Berkman Quartet

nysqThe David Berkman Quartet has appeared at major clubs, concerts and festivals around the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and Asia. The present edition is one of the finest, with Dayna Stephens on saxophones, Linda May Han Oh on bass and Johnathan Blake on drums. David Berkman Quartet recordings include: Live at Smalls with Tom Harrell, Ed Howard and Johnathan Blake (2014), Live at Smoke with Jimmy Greene, Ted Poor and Ed Howard on Challenge records (2009) and Start Here, Finish There with Dick Oatts, Ugonna Okegwo and Nasheet Waits (2004).


The latest incarnation of David’s trio features the brilliant rhythm section of Ed Howard on bass and Victor Lewis on drums. Recent performances for this band include Jazz at the Kitano and Smoke Jazz Club in NYC.


The New York Standards Quartet is a co-operatively led ensemble that focuses on playing jazz standards, arrangements of standards and original music that draws on jazz standards.  The band features  Tim Armacost on saxes, David Berkman on piano, Daiki Yasukagawa on bass and Gene Jackson on drums. The group first came together 13 years ago to tour Japan, brought together by a common love of that country and its culture. Since then, NYSQ has toured Japan 12 times, and has had tours in Spain, the U.K. and around the U.S. as well. In 2016 they released “Sleight of Hand” to rave reviews following the critically acclaimed “Power of 10” in 2015 and “The New Straight Ahead,” (2014) all on Whirlwind Recordings”. They have three previous recordings: “Live in Tokyo” (2008) UnStandard on Challenge Records (2010) and  “Life at Lifetime” on D-Musica (2013).  Their next CD will drop in April of 2018.
